Thoughts on the past couple of weeks.....

We are in the home stretch of the Health Care debate and it looks like we are going to get a bill.  The question is will it be a good bill with a public option and strong consumer protections.  Or will too much compromise and lobbying dilute reform efforts?  I still think that the President can get about 90 percent of what he wants if he is willing to get tough and go to reconciliation.

Enough with the ACORN stuff already.  I know they are corrupt and have some shady people working for them.  But the suggestion that they have some huge influence on the current administration is false.  Keep in mind that this is a Non-Profit cumminty organization that is poorly funded at best.  They dont have the resources to be as influential as conservatives make them out to be.  They are guilty of hiring bad employees and of not training those employees.  They also were irresponsible in how they ran their organization and deserve some repremand for their behavior.  BUT that does not mean that they represent the entire liberal movement or that they carry any wieght in the current administration.  This is a small community advocate group that needs to get their house in order!!  This is not a far reaching, highly influential group that is going to destroy our country, which is what some in the media would have you believe.

Additional thoughts......

Kudos to Obama for leaving Fox out of his media blitz last weekend.  If they are not going to act like a legitimate news organization then they dont deserve to be treated like one.

Congrats to Mike Huckabee for winning the straw poll at the values voter conferance.  I truly think that he will pander his way right out of the main stream of American politics if he keeps it up.

Obama is back in D.C. It's time to get to work!!

So Obama's week long vacation to Martha's vineyard is over, and not a moment to soon.  It is time that Obama take control of the health care debate in a way we have not seen yet.  It is also time to use the presidency to bang some republican heads and get some legislation passed.  No more Mr. Nice President.  You can read more at my Blog the The Kentucky Liberal.
